Biography
Jiahe (Janice) Zhang was born in Ningxia in 2004. At the age of eight, she began to take cello lessons under the guidance of Mu Zhu in Beijing, from whom she has been learning in the "Middle School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music" since 2017. As a junior student, she has attended masterclasses and workshops held by Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Claudio Bohórquez, Danjulo Ishizaka, Stephen Forck, Li-Wei Qin.
She has been awarded as the young cellist being a prize-winner at the 11th International Cello competition of Serbia, the 30th Young Musician Competition ‘Città di Barletta’, the "New Talent" competition for young musicians in British, and has won several prizes at “AiQin Cup”international cello competition in Beijing.
On August 1, 2020, she successfully held a solo concert in her hometown.
After listening to her performance, Professor Jo Cole, director of the string music at the Royal Conservatory of music, commented:"An assured and confident performance full of energy and incisive articulation, which shows a sense of soloistic confidence, engaging performance of great technical proficiency and spirit."
