Biography

Lauren Spaulding, a Texas native, received her BM and MM in Viola performance, working under the tutelage of Professor Peter Slowik at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Geraldine Walther of the Takács Quartet. As a soloist, Spaulding has worked with and learned from many notable performers including Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Antoine Tamestit, Lawerence Power, Pinchas Zukerman, Dimitri Murrath, James Dunham, and Yizhak Schotten. Additionally, Spaulding’s musical career has been heavily influenced by her love for collaboration, leading her to study chamber music under the extensive guidance of Karen Ritcher, the Takács Quartet, the Cavani Quartet, and with Darrett Adkins at the Juilliard School of Music, Roger Tapping of the Juilliard String Quartet, the Ying Quartet, the Pro Arte Quartet, and the Orpheus Ensemble. In 2012, Spaulding’s Quartet was invited to perform at the White House for President Obama to commemorate American composers as a “Champion of Change”. Spaulding continues to use her love for chamber music to advocate for under-represented composers, young neuro-atypical musicians, and works with Kim Kashkashian and her team as a Co-Chapter head for the ‘Music for Food’ initiative, fighting food insecurity.

Spaulding is based in NYC & Denver where she is a member of Meredith Monk’s performance ensemble, a regular with the Colorado Symphony, and recording artist with award winning studios such as ‘Found Objects Music’ in NYC. Lauren’s playing can be heard on “Social Dilemma” & “Modern Love” Season 2. Lauren performs with Pro Musica Colorado, Boulder Bach, So & So New York, the Playground String Quartet, and is the Principal Violist & Festival Artist for Colorado MahlerFest alongside Jorja Fleezanis, Erika Eckert, and Perry Karp. Spaulding has performed chamber music with members of the Cavani Quartet, the Tesla Quartet, the Ying Quartet, the Takács Quartet, the Pro Arte Quartet, and alongside members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, the London Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Ballet, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the English Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra.

Spaulding is a current finalist for the ‘Music International Grand Prix’ solo competition held in Carnegie Hall April of 2021, and has recently placed first in the Reno Pop’s Concerto Competition. Spaulding has been invited, for summer 2021, to be a featured artist at Yellow Barn with Kim Kashkashian, and a featured artist at Virtuoso Bel Canto with Nobuko Imai.
