Biography
Mario began his cello studies at the age of 9 at the Conservatory of Music in Rostock, Germany. In 2013, after returning to Chile, he enters the cello class of Professor Martin Osten at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2016 he continues his undergraduate studies in Prof. Julian Arp's class at the University of Music and Art in Graz, Austria. Here, in 2020, he graduates with honors.
In addition to being a prize winner in important competitions within Chile, such as the Young Talent Contest 2015, Concepción (1st prize), Intérpretes del Siglo XXI 2015, Santiago (1st prize), and the Concurso Mayor, Santiago 2016 (2nd prize), in the year 2018 also received 2nd prize at the IX Concorso Musicale Citta' de Philadelphia in Italy.
As a soloist, he has performed repeatedly with the Symphony Orchestra of the Universidad de Concepción, as well as with the Academic Orchestra of the Universidad Católica, and as an orchestral musician, he has been principal cellist of important international youth orchestras, including OA Orchestra of the Americas, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra, as well as co-principal of Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.
He has received master classes from renowned cellists such as Maria Kliegel, Troels Svane, Heidi Litschauer, Natalie Clein and Tamas Varga.
He currently continues his studies as academist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester in Hamburg.
