Biography
Frida Tharaldsen Skaftun, a norwegian born cellist, started playing the cello at the age of 8 and quickly fell in love with the instrument. She is an interesting and varied player who thrives on playing a lot of chamber music, orchestral playing and solo performance. She is currently studying with Martti Rousi at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
Frida has performed with renowned artists such as Alisa Weilerstein, Tabea Zimmermann, Alexander Zemtsov, Jonathan Biss, Leif Ove Andsnes and various others. She has also played with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Finnish Chamber Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic and The Norwegian Radio. She has received several scholarships and prizes such as the Shell scholarship, Sparebank 1 scholarship and several first prizes in the Norwegian National Youth Competition.
Previous to the her studies in Helsinki, she studied at Barratt due Institute of Music with Ole Eirik Ree and Anne-Britt Årdal. She has engaged in masterclasses with Ivry Gitlis, Gavriel Lipkind, Enrico Dindo, Maria Kliegel, Istvan Vardai and Troels Svane.
