Biography

Korean cellist So-Yoen Park began playing the cello at the age of six. She graduated from the Seoul National University with honors and then studied with Prof. Jean-Guihen Queyras at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, where she received her master’s degree. Since 2018 she has continued her studies at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart with Prof. Tristan Cornut. 

She has won numerous competitions including Yewon Music Competition, Sungjung Music Competition and the Tae-Gu Broadcasting Competition, among many others. She has also performed as a soloist with the Satu Mare State Philharmonic Orchestra, the Taegu Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seoul National University String Ensemble and the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker. 

She gained further inspiration by attending masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Gustav Rivinius, Johannes Moser, Julius Berger, Danjulo Ishizaka and David Geringas. 

So-Yoen also performs regularly as a chamber musician and orchestral player. She had a concert as a member of Dr. Mahn Young Chamber and in the season 2018/19 she played as an academist in the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. Since 2019 she is a member of the Orchestral Ensemble Seoul.
