Biography
Sunniva Skaug enjoyed an intensive and varied musical education. Next to viola and piano lessons, she attended the Academy of Vocal Arts in The Hague for 10 years, making tours abroad and singing in high quality choir performances on big stages. After starting on the violin, Sunniva switched to the viola at the age of 9, with Julia Dinerstein. She has received numerous awards at competitions both in The Netherlands and abroad, and frequently appeared as a soloist with orchestras. She has an extensive resumé in chamber music, having attended summer festivals such as KamermuziekAtelier Delft, Peter de Grote Festival and Zeister Muziekdagen with various ensembles, the latter in the context of a 2-year mentorship programme with the Jeruzalem Quartet. Together with her sister Ursula, she performed as a viola duo at the Grachtenfestival 2020 and at the International Viola Congress 2019 in Poznan (Poland). Her orchestral experience includes the renowned youth orchestras Viotta and YTO. Sunniva plays a viola made by the Amsterdam based luthier Daniël Royé in 2016, with a bow built by Henk te Hietbrink in Arnhem.
