Biography
Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Delvan Lin has established himself as one of the country’s foremost emerging pianists. He gave his first public performance in the Auckland Town Hall at the age of ten, and has since been invited to perform on stages in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Denmark, and Taiwan. His performances have been broadcast on Upbeat by Radio NZ Concert and broadcast on The Arts Channel (Sky TV New Zealand).
Delvan has won first prizes at each of New Zealand’s major piano competitions, including becoming the youngest winners of both the Wallace National Piano Competition and PACANZ Young Performer of the Year. In addition, he is also a laureate of the Lev Vlassenko International Piano Competition, MTNA New York State Division, and Marian Garcia International Piano Competition.
A two-time winner of the CMNZ National Chamber Music Competition, Delvan has also demonstrated his pianistic versatility through chamber music. He was the founding pianist of the Aurelian Trio, which was awarded the Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Music Scholarship. Aurelian toured the UK in 2017, presenting an eclectic program ranging from Beethoven to Jennifer Higdon in prominent venues such as St James’ Piccadilly, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Lake District Summer Music, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they premiered an original work dedicated to the trio by composer Xu Tang.
Delvan has performed in masterclasses for Vladimir Ashkenazy, Christopher Elton, Julian Martin, Anton Nel, John O’Conor, Edith Fischer, Jie Chen, Benjamin Hochman, and William Fong. He has appeared as a concerto soloist with the New Zealand Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic, Manukau Symphony, Bach Musica, Aotea Youth Symphony, and Curtis Institute of Music Summerfest Orchestras. In New Zealand, Delvan studied privately with Rae de Lisle and Bryan Sayer. He received his Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Nelita True and Alan Chow. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Music degree at the New England Conservatory, studying with Dang Thai Son and Meng-Chieh Liu.
