Biography

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Delvan Lin quickly established himself from a young age as one of the country’s foremost emerging pianists. He gave his first public performance in the Auckland Town Hall at the age of ten, and has since been invited to perform on stages in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Taiwan. His performances have been broadcast on Radio NZ Concert and televised on The Arts Channel (Sky TV).

Described as a “Wunderkind” by Radio New Zealand, Delvan has enjoyed much competition success. Having collected first prizes at each of the major piano competitions in New Zealand, including becoming the youngest-ever winner at both the Wallace National Piano Competition and PACANZ Young Performer of the Year, he has gone on to win awards at the Lev Vlassenko International Piano Competition, MTNA New York State Division, and Marian Garcia International Piano Competition.

A two-time winner of the CMNZ National Chamber Music Competition, Delvan has also demonstrated his pianistic versatility through chamber music. He was the founding pianist of the Aurelian Trio, which was awarded the Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Music Scholarship. Aurelian toured the UK in 2017, presenting a colorful program ranging from Beethoven to Jennifer Higdon in prominent venues such as St James’ Piccadilly, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Lake District Summer Music Festival, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they premiered an original work dedicated to the ensemble by composer Xu Tang.

Delvan has performed in masterclasses for distinguished artists such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Christopher Elton, Julian Martin, Anton Nel, John O’Conor, Edith Fischer, Jie Chen, Benjamin Hochman, and William Fong. He has made appearances as a concerto soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, Manukau Symphony Orchestra, Bach Musica Auckland, Aotea Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Curtis Institute of Music Summerfest Orchestra.

Beginning piano lessons at the age of six, Delvan studied privately with Rae de Lisle while attending King’s College as a recipient of the music scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of MUsic, where he studied with Nelita True and Alan Chow, and is preparing to continue his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Dang Thai Son and Meng-Chieh Liu.
