Biography
Born in 1997, Japanese cellist Keisuke Morita has been lauded for his “expressive lyricism” and “pure sound” based on a profound knowledge about style, phrase, and articulation. The honors received during his studies in Japan and Germany reflect his humanity as well as the excellence of his artistry.
Keisuke Morita had his first cello lessons at age three. At the age of six, he began to study piano. He graduated at the top from Toho Gakuen Music College in Japan, where he was taught by Sumiko Kurata, and from Hochschule für Musik Saar in Germany. He is currently studying at the graduate school with Gustav Rivinius. For further study, he has taken part in masterclasses given by, among others, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Mario Brunello, and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt.
When he was a second-year student at the Toho music high school in Japan, Keisuke won first prize and audience prize in the cello category of the Music Competition of Japan. He was also awarded the Best Young Artist Prize by the Aoyama Music Foundation and the Frédéric Chopin Prize by the Frédéric Chopin Society of Japan. In 2018, he won the Grand Prix in the 14th Romanian International Music Competition. Under the severe circumstances of COIVD-19, he was selected as a semi-finalist at the George Enescu International Competition 2020/2021.
Keisuke appeared with orchestras, including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hungary Savaria Symphony Orchestra, the Barcelona Baroque Orchestra, and the Berliner Chamber Orchestra. He also gave solo recitals and played in chamber groups at festivals such as the Festival Pablo Casals in Prades and the Kronberg Academy Festival.
