Biography
Alexander Lesch (born 1994 in Halle, Saale) received his first violin lessons at the age of 5. He currently studies with Prof. Sebastian Hamann at the University of Music Freiburg.
From 2012 to 2017 the young German violinist studied at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig with Henrik Hochschild and Yun Jin Cho and received his “Bachelor of Music”, graduating with honor.
Alexander attended several prestigious masterclasses, for instance with Sebastian Schmidt, Ingolf Turban, and Andrew Manze. Furthermore, he received chamber music lessons from Peter Bruns, Norman Fisher and Robert Levin.
Moreover, he had the great pleasure to perform as a soloist with several orchestras, such as the Staatskapelle Halle, the "Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie" and the "Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Wernigerode".
Alexander could already gather a multitude of orchestral experiences. In 2017, Alexander won the audition for the "Orchesterakademie Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Thus, he had the great opportunity to partake in concerts with famous conductors, such as Andris Nelsons, Herbert Blomstedt, Daniele Gatti and Vasily Petrenko.
Additionally, Alexander Lesch was a member of the "European Union Youth Orchestra" and the "Gustav Mahler Academy Orchestra". Likewise, he was the concert master in several orchestras, such as "Junge Philharmonie Sachsen-Anhalt", "Hochschulsinfonieorchester Leipzig" and the Lipsian ensemble "Amici Musicae".
In addition to his orchestral career Alexander loves playing chamber music in various ensembles. In 2012, he won a first prize at the competition of the "Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert" in the category "Duo Violin and Piano".
Moreover, he is a member of the "Satyr - String Quartet”, which was founded in 2013 by students of the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig.
Playing as a string trio, his colleagues and him won the first prize of the Chamber Music Competition of the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig in 2020.
Since 2019, Alexander holds a "Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz” scholarship and therefore had the opportunity to thus far work with soloists, such as Candida Thompson and Christoph Coin.
The violin Alexander plays on is a model of the Tizian Stradivari, made by Andreas Hudelmayer in 2016.
