Biography
Carolina Coimbra was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, in 1992. She obtained in 2017 a two-year postgraduate degree in harp at the Scuola Civica di Musica Claudio Abbado, Milano, with Irina Zingg. Between 2010 and 2015 he studied at the University of Arts in Zurich (ZHdK) with Sarah O’Brien, Irina Zingg and Catherine Michel, having obtained the bachelor degree and the diploma of Master of Arts in Music Performance, with Specialization in Instrumental Performance, Orchestra. Her regular attendance at HarpMasters Academy led her to work with recognized harpers, such as Milda Agazarian, Mara Galassi, Germaine Lorenzini, Isabelle Moretti, Petra van der Heide, Luisa Prandina, Fabrice Pierre, Marielle Nordmann, among others.
Since September 2018 she teaches the Harp class at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
Carolina collaborates regularly with the Gulbenkian Orchestra as a guest solo harp and played also with other orchestras such as the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Teatro São Carlos, Lisbon), Orchestra La Fenice, Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música. She was a member of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra in 2017.
Her solo activity includes participating in festivals such as, In Spiritum Porto Music Festival, XI Rio Harp Festival (Portugal), 12th World Harp Congress (Australia), Arpissima Salvi (Italy), Salsomaggiore Harp Festival (Italy), HarpWeek Uppsala (Sweden), 2nd International Harp Cycle of Porto (Portugal). She was the guest Young Celebrity Master at the 9th edition of the HarpMasters Festival (Switzerland). She is also dedicated to chamber music, having participated in the concerts Gulbenkian Soloists and Metropolitana Soloists. She performs regularly with horn player Gabriele Amarù and flutist Nuno Inácio. She has participated in the recording of the album “Chamber Music I” (2019), by the composer Vasco Hugo Reis in the work Transparent (e) for flute, viola and harp.
Carolina has won several international awards such as, XX Concurso de Interpretação do Estoril 2021 (2nd Prize ex aequo), Suoni d'arpa 2017 (2nd Prize), XXVI Riviera della Versilia Competition D.Ridolfi 2017 (2nd Prize), 18th International Competition Petar Konjovic 2013 (1st Prize), 4th Concorso Internazionale di Arpa Marcel Tournier 2012 (1st Prize), among others.
In the 2019/2020 season, Carolina Coimbra joins the list of nine young musicians who received a scholarship in the professional training course Professione Orchestra born from the partnership between Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the Accademia di Música di Pinerolo .
