Biography
Jorge Giménez was born in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, in 2001. He began his cello studies at the age of four in Palma. Jorge studied a Bachelor degree in cello performance at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de las Islas Baleares. He graduated in June 2019. In 2020 he received the Extraordinary end of Degree Award of the Conservatory of the Balearic Islands. Since August 2019 he is studying with Professor Amit Peled at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. This year he is studying 4th of Bachelor (Senior) and he is expecting to graduate in May of 2021. Currently, part of his studies are financed by The Johns Hopkins University “Excellence in Music Leadership Full Scholarship”. In 2011 he began to take classes with Professor Maria de Macedo in Madrid, until 2019. He has had masterclasses with very renowned musicians such as Gary Hoffman, Marc Coppey, Frans Helmerson, Lluis Claret, Jens Peter Maintz, Adrian Brendel, Claudio Bohórquez, Troels Svanne, Amit Peled, Alban Gerdhart, Paul Badur Skoda, Cecylia Barczyk, Emmanuel Feldman, among others. Jorge has won many competitions, being the last of them the Juventudes Musicales de Madrid Scholarship award, the 1st prize at Mount Vernon Virtuosi Cello Competition and the 2nd prize at the Gustav Mahler Cello Competiton. He has performed several times with orchestra, interpreting the Haydn cello concertos (C and D) and the Dvorak cello concerto. He has also performed in many festivals, such as the Deia International Music Festival in Mallorca, the European Music Foundation Stringsfest Festival and the Enrique Granados Festival.
