Eugene Kawai

Biography

Born in 2002 in Tokyo, Japan, Eugene currently studies with Prof. Natsumi Tamai and Chiyoko Noguchi in the Special Soloist Program at the Tokyo University of Arts as a full scholarship student.  He has had outstanding achievements at national and international competitions since he was very young.  He has won the first prizes at the 13th Lipinski and Wieniawski International Competition (Under 17 Division) in 2015, and the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in 2017.   He is also a major prize laureate in the 88th Japan Music Competition for adult musicians in 2019.
Since making his debut at 12 with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, he has gone on to perform with orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Chamber Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony Orchestra.  Eugene plays on the A. Stradivarius “Lyall” 1702 on generous loan from the ITOH Foundation.
