Biography
Mykola Shakhov (Ukraine).
I was born on May 22nd 1990 in Novaya Kakhovka, Kherson region, Ukraine , and started playing the piano at the age of 6.
In 2003 I graduated from the 1st music school in Novaya Kakhovka with a degree in "Piano" and entered a double bass class, in Odessa in the Specialized music school named after P.S. Stolyarsky by 2004. After graduation I got admitted to the Odessa National A.V.Nezhdanova Academy of music (2009) in the Double bass class of the Honored Artist of Ukraine, Associate Professor, Acting Professor, Concertmaster of the National Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra group, Vladimir Chekaluk.
During my years of study at the Stolyarsky School and the Music Academy named after A.V. Nezhdanova I acquired all educational levels: bachelor, specialist, master and assistant trainee and also took part in many competitions, festivals and concerts.
I also became a laureate of the international competition named after E. Koki (Chisinau, Moldova) 2009.,
took part in the string orchestra of the Bavarian House of Odessa on a tour of German cities, where I performed a concert for double bass by the Italian composer Domenico Dragonetti 11 times, the performances were noted by the German press as successful.
In my student years I received the 1st prize at the Ukrainian music competition "I.C.M.U." 2011,
Laureate of the first prize of the Ukrainian music competition "Art of the 21st Century" Kiev, 2013,
won a special jury prize at the 1st International Double Bass Competition "Golden Bass", Ukraine-Switzerland, and, became a Laureate of the 5th International Competition of contrabass players named after I. Sergei Koussevitsky (2nd prize), in St. Petersburg, Russia.
In 2014 I was the laureate of the 1st All-Ukrainian Competition of Chamber Ensembles named after V.P. Povzuna.
In 2016, I was the only one from Ukraine to pass the selection and took part in one of the most prestigious world competitions for double bass players 65 Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD in Munich, Germany.
In conjunction with my studies, I gained experience in orchestral playing at the National Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Orchestra of the Odessa National Opera and Ballet Theater. As a soloist I performed with national symphony and chamber orchestras from different countries and cities of Ukraine, participated in master classes of such world famous double bass players as Christina Hook, Nik de Groot, Dorin Mark, Ivan Zavgorodniy, Evgeniy Kolosov, Andreas Wylezol, Evgeniy Levinson, Edicson Ruiz, Alberto Bocini, Vladimir Chekaluk.
In 2018 I won a competition at the Giuseppe Sinopoli Akademie (Dresden, Germany), famous and rich in its traditions "Staatskapelle Dresden".I have experienced working with such world famous conductors as: Christian Tilemann, Alan Gilbert, Vladimir Yurovskij, Herbert Blomstedt, Daniel Gatti.
From 2018 to 2019, I studied at Giuseppe Sinopoli Akademie at the position "Solo - Kontrabass", then in 2019 I won a temporary seat in the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden double bass group.
In 2020 I returned to Odessa, having won the place of the Assistant concertmaster of the double bass group in the Odessa National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the People's Artist of Ukraine, Maestro Hobart Earle.
Also in the same year, I became the winner of the International Online Double Bass Competition, "Kharkiv assemblies".
Since 2020 I have been a teacher of the double bass class at the Odessa National A.V.Nezhdanova Academy of music.
