Biography
Born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1995. His first contact with music was through his father, opera singer and pianist. By the age of 11, Mello started studying cello and enrolled at the Conservatory of São Paulo, under the guidance of Ms. Meryelle Maciente.
At the Music Academy of OSESP, the Symphonic Orchestra of the State of São Paulo, he continued to pursue his education with Mr. Wilson Sampaio, until obtaining his Orchestra Diploma.
After receiving a scholarship of one month to study at the Royal Academy of music in London, Mello began his undergraduate studies at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, Switzerland, with Mr. François Guye and Mr. David Pia.
He participated in masterclasses with famous cellists Mrs. Natalie Gutman, Ms. Sol Gabetta, Mr. Peter Wispelwey, Mr. W.A. Schmidt, Mr. Antonio Menezes and performed on numerous recitals and chamber music concerts with sought-after soloists such as Mr. Radek Baborak, Mr. Andreas Ottensamer, and Mr. Wilfred Strehle.
Mello has received awards for Youth in Brazil, Concours d’Interpretation Musicale de Lausanne in 2017, first prize in the André-François Marescotti Foundation in 2019. Principal cello of l'Orchestre Sinfonietta de Genève in 2018-2019.
Since April 2018, Matheus has been a cello substitute at l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and also an internship at the Berner Symphonie Orchester during the season 2021-2022.
Currently, Mello plays a cello by Charles J.B. Collin-Mézin dated 1900, which was presented to him by the Lalive’s Foundation in Switzerland.
