Biography
Violinist Nick Hammel is currently a senior at The University of Texas where he studies under Sandy Yamamoto. He has soloed with orchestras such as the Central Texas Medical Orchestra and the University of Texas University Orchestra, and has plans to solo with the Austin Civic Orchestra and the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, Nick was appointed Principal Second Violin of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
Nick is also an active chamber music performer, and has performed with artists such as Sandy Yamamoto, Bion Tsang, Andrew Brownell, and Anton Nel. His former group, Trio En, won Silver Medal in the Senior Strings Division of the 2020 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They also placed first in the 2020 MTNA Chamber Music Competition, and were semifinalists in the 2020 Coltman Chamber Music Competition. Nick was also second violinist of the Favola Quartet, which won Grand Prize in the 2020 Coltman Chamber Music Competition
In his free time, Nick loves to play games, whether it be digitally or of the board variety. He also enjoys cooking for friends, even if they might not enjoy it as much as he does.
