Biography

Violinist Nick Hammel is currently a junior at The University of Texas where he studies under Sandy Yamamoto for Violin Performance. He has soloed with orchestras such as the Central Texas Medical Orchestra and the University of Texas University Orchestra, and has plans to solo with the Austin Civic Orchestra and the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra. Nick was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Young Texas Artists Music Competition.

Nick is also an active chamber music performer, and has performed with artists such as Sandy Yamamoto, Bion Tsang, Andrew Brownell, and Anton Nel. His current group, Trío En, recently won Silver Medal in the Senior Strings Division of the 2020 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They have also placed first in the 2020 MTNA Chamber Music Competition, and were semifinalists in the 2020 Coltman Chamber Music Competition. More recently, Trio En has been a finalist of the 2021 Virtual Coltman Chamber Music Competition. Nick was also second violinist of the Favola Quartet, which won Grand Prize in the 2020 Coltman Chamber Music Competition.
