Biography

Romana Šimbera is a prize-winner of numerous national and international competitions. Back in 2018, she received a special prize for the best interpretation of the obligatory piece at the TEMSIG national competition for young musicians (Slovenia). The same year, as a member of Duo Accellorandom, she received First prize and special prize of city Pula for the highest score of all chamber music ensembles at the International Accordion Competition in Pula (Croatia), First prize and two special prizes at the International Accordion Competition in Castelfidardo (Italy) and Second prize at the International Accordion Competition in Kliengenthal (Germany). For the interpretation of J. Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major with Zagreb Soloist chamber orchestra,  she received Rektor's award, the most prestigious award of University of Zagreb (Croatia, 2019). In the past years, she won the International Young Musicians Competition Prize “Antonio Salieri” (Italy), Special prize of the city Udine at the Concorso Internazionale per Giovani Strumentisti in Povoletto (Italy), Second and two third prizes at the EMCY's International Competition of Young Musicians Petar Konjovic in Belgrade (Serbia).

Romana was born in Slovenia in 1995 and has played the cello since she was six. At 12, she enrolled in Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana and at the age of 17 at Music Academy Zagreb, where she finished her studies with the highest grade in the class of prof. Monika Leskovar (2019). Currently, she is a student of Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (Germany) in the class of prof. Elena Cheah.

As a soloist, she played with RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, The Zagreb Soloist chamber orchestra, the string chamber orchestra of Music Academy Zagreb, Amadeo string orchestra and collaborated with Zagreb philharmonic Orchestra. She gave performances at festivals like Rutesheim Cello Akademie (Germany), Musik in Grünen (Germany), Cervo is Magic (Italy), International days of Bayan (Ukraine), International Festival Bled (Slo) and in cycles Virtuoso (Cro), Music tracks (Cro), Vivat Academia (Cro), and cycles of Slovenian society Jeunesses Musicales Ljubljana.

so far, she attended Masterclasses with more than 20 accomplished musicians such as Ivan Monighetti, Thomas Grossenbacher, Troels Svane, Claudio Bohorquez, Giovanni Gnocci, Martin Löhr, Valter Dešpalj, Julian Arp, Konstantin Heidrich, Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett), David Gregorian, Gustav Tavares, Vogler Quartett, Heime Müller (Artimis Quartett) etc...
