Biography
Bowen Ha was born in Shanghai, China. He studied piano at 5, cello at 9, and double bass at 11. Enrolled in Grade 7 and studied at Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music majoring in Double Bass studied with Professor Bing Luo. In 2017 he moved to The United States and began working with Professor Derek Weller at Interlochen Arts Academy until he graduated in 2019. In the fall of 2019, Mr. Bowen began his Bachelor of Music degree studies at The Juilliard School with a full scholarship under the guidance of Timothy Cobb.
Mr. Bowen has performed in solo recitals with orchestras around Asia and the United States. He is a prize winner of numerous competitions, including The Double Bass Solo of the Art Junior High School Group in Tang Rhyme Carnival International Double Bass Competition, the 7th Concerto Competition of String instrument of Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, 2016 Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition of The Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Young Bassist Competition for 2017 LOUISIANA BASS FEST-LSU, 2017 International Solo Competition (STRINGS DIVISION) for The 3rd Annual Master Players Festival & School, 2017 International Concerto Competition (STRINGS DIVISION) for The 3rd Annual Master Players Festival & School, the final round of the Concerto Competition at Interlochen Arts Academy, The Juilliard School Double bass concerto competition and the semi-final round of the 2019 ISB solo competition(18 over). Mr. Bowen has also won both the 15th and 16th Annual Pirastro Strings Elite Soloists Program at the University of North Texas as a student of Jeffery Bradetich. Recently Mr. Bowen has just won the ACA fellowship of Aspen music festival 2020 as a student of Albert Laszlo and Timothy Pitts. At the same time, he has also won the fellowship of The Music academy of the West music festival 2020 as a student of Nico Abondoli and Verbier Festival Orchestra as a student of Leigh Mesh. As an active chamber and orchestra performing musician, Mr. Bowen has given many performances of both contemporary and classical which included a bass quartet which performed during Professor Yung-chiao Wei’s recital during the 2019 ISB convention and MXE ensemble which he has just enrolled at the Juilliard School Music. Last season Mr. Bowen has also performed with NYO China 2019 as an assistant principal bass at all kinds of music festivals in China, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria and Italy.
