Jiwon Han

Biography

Born in 1987, pianist Jiwon Han is a native of Incheon in South Korea. Raised in a family of musicians, he began his piano studies at the age of three. At the age of ten, his debut performance drew attention when he appeared as a soloist with Korean Philharmonic Orchestra in 1997 performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A major, K.488. In the same year, he gave his first solo recital at Incheon Culture and Arts Center, which followed by performances throughout Korea, Europe and America. By being recognized for his talents he has won many prizes in Korea's important competitions. Also he was given many performing opportunities and major auditions. Mr. Han appeared in top concert venues in Korea including concerts at Seoul Art Center, Sejong Art Center, Hoam Art Hall sponsored by ARTE TV and Joongang Daily, one of Korea’s most widely read publications, and Kumho Art Hall sponsoered by Kumho-Asiana Cultural Foundation and currently he is getting sponsored by one of the most biggest studio in Korea named YAGI Studio.

Jiwon Han is establishing himself as a new musician by playing chamber music and performing as an accompanist for many famous performers. Especially, He has performed for years exclusively with Violinist Zia Shin who is the winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, the Tchaikovsky Competition and the Long-Thibaud Competition. Jiwon continues to give more than 30 performances a year throughout the world, Including South Korea, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Portugal and the United States. Outside of that, he has been showing his music ability by working at one of Korea's most important public broad-casting station KBS for years for the classic concert program as a director.

     He has received a number of prestigious awards, 2nd prize in ISANG YUN International Competition, 3rd prize and Earl Wild special prize in Virginia Waring International Competition, 4th prize and Ibero-American special prize in Teresa Carreño Competition and on 2014 his debut album has been released including Chopin and Isang Yun pieces. In 2015 his 2nd album ‘Romanticism’ has been released including Brahms, Schumann and Liszt.

Mr. Han studied with Prof. Young-Bang Cho at Gyeonggi Arts High School where he graduated with the highest honor. In Korea National University of Arts, he studied with Prof. Choong-Mo Kang for bachelor's and master's degree and studied with Prof. Daejin Kim for artist diploma.
He also studied with Prof. Awadagin Pratt at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music for artist diploma, being granted a full scholarship (Graduate Incentive Award) and Art of the Piano Foundation Award. Currently, he is pursuing doctoral degrees for performance piano and collaborative piano in Michigan State University under prof. Deborah Moriarty and Dr. Zhi Hua Tang.
